Brazilian socialists Sabrina Fernandes and Mariana Riscali are confirmed to speak at Ecosocialism 2026.
They will join activists from Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore and the United States and Australia at this year's gathering on September 11–13 at the Albion Peace Centre in Magan-djin/Brisbane.
Under the theme “Resistance, Decolonisation, Liberation”, Ecosocialism 2026 seeks to bring together activists to discuss pathways for overcoming capitalism.
Among the new speakers are:
● Riscali, from the Socialist Left Movement (MES), a current within the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL) in Brazil. She is a member of PSOL's National Executive Committee and Executive Director of the Lauro Campos and Marielle Franco Foundation.
● Debbie Kilroy, an unapologetic abolitionist whose activism and work centres on dismantling the prison industrial complex and all forms of carceral control and exile. Kilroy is a founder of Sisters Inside, the National Network of Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, and her law firm, Kilroy & Callaghan Lawyers.
● Jodie Hall, a Wakka Wakka trans woman and Digital Campaigner at Trans Justice Project. Hall is also a member of the local action group Trans Justice Meanjin.
● Dr Elise Boyle Espinosa, whose research focuses on education and politics in conflict-affected areas, including fieldwork on the role of education in the Rojava Revolution in North and East Syria. She currently works at the School of Political Science and International Studies, University of Queensland.
● Sam Wainwright, a Socialist Alliance national co-convenor and active Stop AUKUS WA member. He was a Fremantle City Councillor and will be the Socialist Alliance WA Senate candidate at the next federal election.
● Peter Boyle, a co-founder of Rojava Solidarity – Sydney, which builds solidarity with the Kurdish-led revolution in north-east Syria. Boyle helped initiate the campaign against Aboriginal deaths in custody in the 1980s and is a Socialist Alliance national executive member; and.
● Ben Radford, a Peruvian-Australian journalist for Green Left and a trainee high school teacher. Radford was based in South America from 2023–2025, reporting on grassroots struggles against extractivism, colonialism and authoritarianism.
They will join Brazilian ecosocialist Fernandes, senior Googatha elder Aunty Sue Coleman-Haseldine, Climate & Capitalism editor Ian Angus, Cuba solidarity activist Helen Yaffe, Justice for Palestine Magan-djin’s Remah Naji and Ella Teevan from the Democratic Socialists of America.
Also confirmed from the Asian region are: Kirisna Veni Singham (Socialist Party of Malaysia), Ayesha Ahmad (People’s Rights Party, Pakistan), N Sai Balaji (Communist Party of India Marxist-Leninist Liberation), Khyl Ramos (Party of the Labouring Masses, the Philippines), and Rocky and Yong Feng (Singapore).
Other speakers include: Kamal Fadel from the Polisario Front (Western Sahara), Greens MP Abigail Boyd, Jews for Palestine WA’s Janet Parker and long-term LGBTIQ rights campaigner Rachel Evans.
