Dare to Struggle along with Canterbury City Community Centre and the United Australian Palestinans Workers Association are hosting a screening of the award winning documentary, Palestine Under Siege.
Shot in Palestine on West Bank and in Jerusalem in June and July, this recently completed documentary features Australians, Dr Peter Slezak, UNSW Honorary Associate Professor of Philosophy, Rand Darwish, Australian Palestinian student and former Greens Senator, Lee Rhiannon spent time talking to Palestinians and Jews in Lebanon and Palestine on the themes of the 1948 Nakba, settler colonialism and the apartheid nature of the Israeli state.
The film features interviews with:
Salman Abu Sitta, a Palestinian researcher, known for his mapping project so refugees can return after the Occupation ends.
Jeff Halper, an Israeli-American anthropologist, author, lecturer, and political activist and director of the Israeli Committee Against Home Demolitions (ICAHD). Jeff takes us to visit a farmer who has had his house demolished twice and had it rebuilt twice by ICAHD.
Hanan Ashrawi, a Palestinian politician, activist, and scholar and winner of the 2003 Sydney Peace Prize takes us through the one state, two state discussion, the Israeli people’s opposition to the govenments judiciary changes and a look at Gaza as an open air prison waiting for something to happen.
Filmmakers are John Reynolds and Jill Hickson who accompanied the group and filmed and edited the film. The filmmakers have worked for over 30 years in the NGO, government and union sectors, producing videos for this sector as well as producing their own body of work over the years around social and political issues.
