Photos: Trans rights counter protesters dwarf transphobic rally

More than 1000 protesters rallied for trans rights and against racism in Magan-djin/Brisbane on July 12 dwarfing a transphobic gathering of a couple of hundred people the same day.

The transphobic gathering was initially advertised as featuring Pauline Hanson but, on the day, her One Nation colleague Malcolm Roberts took her place.

Controversially, Queensland Greens co-founder Drew Hutton spoke on the transphobic platform. Greens MP Michael Berkmann spoke at the counter rally and explicitly distanced the Queensland Greens from Hutton and the transphobic rally.

Large numbers of police kept the two protests apart, however, Riff Raff radical marching band staged a joyful, musical "drown out hate" street parade on George Street near the transphobic action.
