Treaty Talks Workshop
9.30-4.30pm, 23-25 January 2018
National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE)
166 - 180 George St Redfern NSW 2017
Alongside this historic public march for ‘Justice and Treaty’, Aboriginal community members are invited to attend the Treaty Talks Workshop from the 23rd -25th January 2018 in Sydney, at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) in Redfern.
In the three days before the ‘Justice Through Treaty’ march Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will meet to discuss what we wish included in a national Treaty. Speakers and participants from every State will look at practical means to address self-determination, how we can support our communities to overcome the legacy of colonialism, poverty, racism and marginalization. A Treaty provides the structural framework to establish self-determination, empower our communities and enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to determine our future!
The Treaty Talks workshop will be led by Aboriginal Elders to discuss what a Treaty may include and what Justice might look like. The conference will be an opportunity for Aboriginal communities to contribute to identifying what a Treaty that promotes social justice and our fundamental rights as First Peoples, might look like, recognizing both local nations and a national framework.
The Treaty Talks Workshop is open to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and will be held at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) on George St Redfern, from the 23-25 January 2018
