Why

Join us for a community fun run (or stroll or roll) from the river (Birrarrung Marr) to the “sea” (that’s Sea Life Aquarium, not the real sea) on June 6, to raise funds to fight QLD’s laws banning pro-Palestine speech.

This is the Naarm action supporting the major event in Magan-djin and sister events in Gadi (Sydney) and Boorloo (Perth).

Why?

Earlier this year, QLD Parliament passed laws that criminalised using the phrases "from the river to the sea" and "globalise the intifada". 26 people have now been arrested and charged in Queensland under these prohibited expression laws.

Police are censoring artwork and raiding the homes of activists calling out the ongoing genocide in Gaza. But the movement for Palestinian liberation is unwavering. Now more than ever is the time to keep showing up for Palestine!

The folks who brought us the Farnsey flashmob and Justice for Palestine Magandjin are fundraising to challenge these prohibited expressions laws in the High Court, and they need all the financial support we can muster!

When:

  • Date: Saturday 6 June
  • Time: Meeting at 10am
  • Where: From Speaker’s Corner on Birrarung Marr to Batman Park (just passed Sea Life) – approx 2 kms

How does it work?

Form a team or come solo with the link below. We won’t be timing anyone - the goal is getting the word out and raising dollars!

Sign up or donate. Click on “Sign up as a Fundraiser” next to the Leaderboard heading — or just hit donate.

We'll start with some short speeches at Birrarrung Marr, then together we will walk, jog, stroll or roll over to Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium (aka "the sea" — we're doing what we can with Melbourne's geography!). Total distance is about 2km. Then, we picnic! Bring snacks.

If you Google Historic Speaker’s Corner, that will take you to the exact meeting point on Birrarung Marr.

What are we wearing?

We're channelling the power walking energy of the '80s and '90s -- think parachute pants, short shorts, long socks, sweat bands, tiny dumbells in hand. And of course, watermelon colours are encouraged.

Can't make it on the day?

Help out by donating to and sharing the word on Justice For Palestine Magan-djin's legal fund.

We want to acknowledge and pay our respects to the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung and Bunurong peoples whose lands this event will take place on, and whose sovereignty was never ceded. We acknowledge that the ongoing occupation and genocide here on this continent is inextricably linked to the continued occupation and genocide in Palestine. Until all the lands occupied by colonial forces are returned to their rightful sovereign peoples, there can be no justice and no peace.
