Over October 8-9, about 70 people attended the Latin America Solidarity Conference, organised by the Latin America Forum in Melbourne, under the theme “Challenging corporate globalisation: people’s power is changing the world”.

Feature sessions looked at various issues affecting Latin America today, including “Imperialism, war and resistance”, “Popular power and people’s governments”, and “The battle for environmental justice and survival”.

Guest speakers included: Alina Canaviri Sullcani, from the National Federation of Indigenous-Peasant Women of Bolivia; Jorge Gonzalez Castillo, secretary of the National Federation Forestry Workers Federation in Chile; Nelson Davila, Venezuelan ambassador to Australia, and many others.

A similar forum featuring the international speakers will be held in Sydney over October 16-17. For info, visit www.latinamericasolidarity.org .
