Numbers were up at the weekly peak-hour Free Palestine protest on January 24, after protesters were attacked and one person hospitalised at their peaceful action the week before.

The Independent and Peaceful Australia Network has been organising weekly protests to highlight support for justice in Palestine and opposition to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

A call to action was circulated after one person was seriously injured on January 16.

Organisers reported that there has been an increase in “hateful attacks on our peaceful protest” and they hope bigger numbers will deter future attacks.

Forty people gathered and chanted for freedom for Gaza on the foreshore during peak holiday traffic. Victorian Police are still investing the assault.
