Why
Abortion is healthcare and bodily autonomy is a right. These are facts that should be acted upon for all people, yet they are once again being pushed to the sidelines. NSW Parliament is soon hearing an anti-abortion bill and we need progressive people to speak out and show up.
WoCo and a coalition of progressive groups are organising as an act of refusal towards anti-choice politics, religious lobbying and far-right organising that all insist on pushing us backwards. On June 2nd, we’re joining together outside NSW Parliament to counter the anti-abortion rally and make it clear that our bodies are our own. And we need you to support us.
Across Australia, individuals continue to face financial, geographic and medical barriers when trying to access abortion and care. Barriers that impact our rural, regional, remote and marginalised communities the most.
We are demanding real productive justice; abortion fully covered under Medicare, free and accessible abortion services in public hospitals, expanded local healthcare services and an end to the postcode lottery that leaves too many people without timely care.
We also reject the idea that abortion only deserves support in “exceptional” circumstances. Reproductive freedom means freedom for individuals to make decisions about their own bodies, lives and futures.
This rally is embedded in defending and expanding the rights we have, fighting the far right and keeping religious interference out of healthcare and law-making. Join us and bring your friends. Show up for bodily autonomy, abortion access and reproductive justice for all.
Supported by Socialist Alliance, Socialist Alternative, Solidarity, Pride in Protest and the NSW Greens.
