Why
On the eve of the parade, Mardi Gras leadership sent notice out to our float organiser that Pride in Protest would be banned from marching unless we deleted posts calling out Zionist float Dayenu for their "pro-genocide" stance. Mardi Gras’ CEO went on to state that it did not matter if our statements were truthful.
Snap rally at 3:30pm at Sydney Town Hall
We did not comply with Minns’ pro-genocide crackdown via anti-protest laws, and we have not complied with this censorship by the Mardi Gras CEO.
As a result, we have received confirmation that we have been removed for the ‘safety’ of other participants.
We intend to march for Mardi Gras one way or another, and we will still distribute trans flags to parade participants. We are meeting at Townhall at 3:30 and marching to Hyde Park, and we encourage everyone to join us.
This attempt to censor our views on the genocide of Palestinians is deeply hypocritical. The leadership of SGLMG have recently argued that even encouraging floats to take on the issue of trans rights would be an imposition. Now, they attempt to control the social media of parade participants to protect Zionists.
It is not “bullying,” as Mardi Gras’ CEO claimed, to criticise organisations that support genocide.
The ball is now in Mardi Gras’ court as to how much they wish to damage their standing in the community by banning participants critical of the genocide.
