Why

All individuals and groups interested in queer and trans rights, building community engagement, plus campaigning against transphobia, and the far-right, are invited to the Rainbow Rights Roundtable.

We will hear updates about the gay hate inquiry and right to protest from the NSW Council for Civil Liberties Josh Pallas and from the University Sydney Queer Action Collective, on courageous non-violent actions taken against Christian Right speakers who recently toured Sydney and against the transphobic forum organised in NSW Parliament with disgraced Liberal candidate Katherine Deves and Victorian Liberal explusionee Moira Deeming.

We are inviting activists from the Naarm/ Melbourne-based Rainbow Community Angels, the 78ers, Fruits from Brazil, Pride In Protest, Union Pride, Rainbow Families, NSW Legal Observers and Dykes on Bikes.

Rainbow rights activists will also participate from Thirroul/Illawarra, the land of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples/ Newcastle and from the Dharag/Gundagarra/Blue Mountains region. These communities have been organising and defending the trans and drag story-telling communities.

Rainbow Rights Coalition notes the anti-trans MyPlace grouplet has invaded councils around Newcastle and in the Blue Mountains. Hence, the Rainbow Rights Roundtable will prioritise the rainbow voices of those communities.

Invitees will give short updates on recent community building activities. At the end of the discussion we will be trained by the Rainbow Community Angels in drag story-telling defence and in how we can mobilise against far-right assaults on community and council spaces.

Where: Sydney University, room 113 New Law Annex.
When: Sunday July 16, 12-3pm
How: Just turn up! Rainbow community plus friends welcome.
