As part of Green Left's 2023 supporter campaign, activists, authors and unionists sent messages of support for the project.

Below are some of the messages of support we received. You can become a supporter from only $5 a month or donate to our 2023 Fighting Fund to keep Green Left going.

Khushbu Rita, All India Student's Association (AISA): “I read Green Left. It is a magazine that attracts intellectuals, progressives and revolutionaries to understand and fight the circumstances of the present times. In all the countries of the world, the people of the world are being looted and ruined by the capitalist ideology, such is the situation in Australia too. We are very happy that this magazine also talks about the conditions in India in detail like the [Narendra] Modi regime. Many thanks and best wishes to the entire team of Green Left for taking forward the fight to establish communism by publishing such a quality magazine in the interest of the entire world including Australia and India.”

Sandip, AISA: "Hey there comrades. We are members of the All India Students Association and today we want to express our strong support for Green Left. Green Left isn't just any magazine, it's a force of progress and solidarity, transcending borders and inspiring change worldwide. Green Left has its finger on the pulse of critical issues from tackling the housing crisis to championing climate justice, from challenging the war drums to demanding First Nations' peoples' justice. But Green Left does not stop at its own doorstep, it has been our ally for a long time. Shedding light on the struggles in India, exposing the injustices in Manipur and amplifying the voices resisting the Modi regime. Remember those times when it felt like the world was not paying attention, but Green Left was there, showing the world what was happening our country. So today we want to say solidarity with Green Left from AISA. To everyone tuning in, we urge you to not just subscribe but to join this dynamic movement. Be a part of the change we all seek. We encourage everyone watching to subscribe to Green Left to support the voice of truth and justice, together we can make a difference. From Australia to India, from the anti-war movement to climate justice, we stand united. So subscribe to Green Left, be a part of the movement and let's change the world together. Red salute!”

Paul Gregoire, award-winning journalist for Sydney Criminal Lawyers: “What drew me to Green Left decades back was that it has such good international news that is told in ways that you won't read in the regular press, or it is covered when the regular press won't cover it. But what I have learned since then is that Green Left also provides great coverage of local, grassroots, on-the-ground political movements in Australia and gives voice to them, a lot more voice to them than the regular mainstream news does. So subscribe to Green Left!”

Les Thomas, singer-songwriter: “The first time I remember seeing somebody with a copy of Green Left was way back in 1992. I was on my way to an anti-Jeff Kennett rally on that day. They have been publishing radical content ever since, opposing racism, war, capitalism and greed. The world is probably in a worse state now so publications like Green Left are more essential than ever. So I'd urge you to get behind it and subscribe. Thank you Green Left!”

Felix Dance, civil engineer and climate activist: “I'm proud to support Green Left, it is a news organisation, a media group that tells stories that the mainstream media won't and it reaches into people's lives in a way that I don't think is really accessible in the world today with the media conglomerated and controlled by corporations and a little bit of public media that is controlled indirectly by the government. It's hard to get voices from the people on the ground, workers and communities that are facing eviction from public housing sell-offs, they are on the picket lines against greedy corporations trying to increase their profits at the expense of workers and communities that are having their services cut and their environment ruined by budget cuts, neoliberalism and the continuation of corporate greed that is dominating our society today. I think that it's important for all of these voices to be heard and all of these struggles to be linked up together because we are all in this as one, we can't just think that we are individuals in a fight on our own. We all link up together in the struggle for justice in the world today. So please support Green Left, I know I do and I love it every time the newspaper gets delivered to my letterbox.”

Behrouz Boochani, Kurdish-Iranian writer, activist and journalist previously held on Manus Island for six years: “Green Left media and group is one of the most independent platforms in Australia and that's why we should support it. It's really important that Green Left is a voice, medium or platform for minorities and marginalised people in society. We should not only support but also protect it because we need it and they have done a great job in the past year since I have known this paper. I know how they have been really important to be a voice for refugees and marginalised people. We really need to have this media and this group keep going and keep working and that's why I think it is important.”

Choo Chon Kai, Socialist Party of Malaysia: "I am a long-time reader of Green Left. Green Left is a valuable and important alternative media that provides us with news reporting and analysis on socio-economic and political affairs as well as people's struggle around the world from a progressive and left-wing perspective. Green Left is totally funded by contributions from readers and supporters so I would like to ask you to become a supporter of Green Left for just $5 a month to get the digital edition of Green Left. Do chip in to give your support to Green Left and efforts to build a better world.”

Dr Rowan Cahill, labour historian: “For the last 56 years I have been a contributor to the Australian working class and radical, leftist press generally and it is wonderful to see Green Left continuing. It is part of a tradition in Australia that goes back to the second half of the 19th century. It is a proud tradition, it is a big tradition. Currently Green Left is raising funds and subscriptions, if you are out there and can find a way of contributing financially to the success and continuation of this paper you would be most welcome.”

Gulfer Olan, co-chair of the Federation of Democratic Kurdish Society (Australia): “Green Left has been a voice of all minorities around the world and it is an impartial newspaper. Green Left has been a great supporter of the Kurdish freedom struggle and has always been a great voice for women's rights. So let's all together support Green Left and subscribe for only $5 a month.”

Joonshik Shin, Korean peace and anti-war activist: “I am an activist for anti-war, anti-nuclear and peace and Green Left is a very important newspaper. It has supported human rights, people's movements and social justice issues. We need Green Left very much, I would like you to support this newspaper financially for $5 a month or more. Thank you so much, solidarity and best wishes.”

Huei Ting, Socialist Party of Malaysia: “Sick of mainstream media that speaks for the rich? Looking for diverse and progressive perspectives? Then you should subscribe to Green Left today. We fully support Green Left and we hope that more people will support this new platform. Green Left is an independent ecosocialist news platform that brings news from all around the world. They talk about hard-hitting issues such as climate justice, gender equality, affordable housing and more. You have the power to choose the news you read. Keep grassroots and activist journalism alive today by subscribing to Green Left.”

Khaled Ghannam, Palestinian activist: “When I want to read about Palestine in an Australian newspaper, it would be Green Left for sure. It covers all of the Palestinian struggle and that is very important to me to read Palestinian news and analysis in English. It is pro-Palestinian and activist. I have learned in Green Left about struggles from Latin America and Asia and Africa, it covers all of the revolution and all the struggle around the world. That is amazing for a newspaper. And we are able to write in it if you have something to share so we can learn from you. Green Left is also the activist calendar, showing all of the activist events coming up, including marches, rallies and other events. Green Left also covers culture and music. I send the digital edition of Green Left to my friends in Palestine and they love it and say they learn a lot. The most important thing is to support Green Left by making a donation or subscribing for $5 a month.”

John Riddell, founder of the Comintern Publishing Project, and Suzanne Weiss, author of Holocaust to Resistance: My Journey: “Keep in the know with Green Left, a reliable weekly socialist news source that we have trusted for many years. Green Left consistently sheds light on the global struggles for economic and social justice, a healthy environment, against war and for a better world. Get a supportership! You deserve it.”

Joe Collins, Australia West Papua Association: “Green Left is a valuable source of information on all of the issues of concern, we have climate change, refugees, Indigenous rights and on self-determination struggles to name a few. On the issue of West Papua, which I'm involved with, Green Left has consistently highlighted over the years the ongoing human rights abuses committed by the security forces in the territory, the destruction of the environment by resource extraction, with little benefit to the local people, issues not always covered by the mainstream media. I would encourage people to support Green Left by subscribing.”

Dick Nichols, Green Left's European correspondent: “Every morning's news brings confirmation that our world is living through a nightmare of environmental destruction, war, spiralling inequality and slaughter of democratic rights for millions. Action for a sustainable and humanly decent alternative to this horror needs two things above all. Truthful information, especially about all those fighting injustice and oppression, and acquaintance with the debates about what forces are generating the nightmare. Green Left has been helping provide those resources for over 30 years, financed only by its supporters. It doesn't take much imagination to conceive what Australian political life would have been like without Green Left: how many struggles would have gone unreported, injustices passed over, courageous activists left voiceless, fights for justice beyond the borders of Australia never even heard of. So once again, as we've done every year for over 30 years, we urge everyone to contribute. Please give Green Left whatever you can afford, or even a little bit more, but please give it something. There's no prize except awareness that your contribution will make our collective fight against the nightmare that little bit stronger.”

Bashir Sawalha, a leader of the Palestinian community in Gadi/Sydney: “I would like to encourage each and every one of you to support Green Left for its commitment to justice and peace in Palestine and around the globe. I would also like to thank all comrades for your work in keeping this newspaper going.”

Selahattin Fil, veteran Turkish leftist: “I am a Green Left reader, I love to read it because I get so much good information, correct news and also information about what is going on around the world. I advise you to become a subscriber of Green Left.”
