Yesterday, fracked gas from the Beetaloo Basin was pumped into the NT electricity grid for the first time. The NT is also planning a big expansion of data centres which will be run in part on Beetaloo gas.
Around the country today, people took action to oppose the opening of Beetaloo and to highlight the disaster that ongoing fossil fuel extraction will be. This action was in Magan-djin/Brisbane outside federal environment minister Murray Watt's office.
Activists intended to present Watt with fracking fluid to show how dangerous it is, but he declined to meet with protesters.
