Illawarra refugee activists call on Labor MP to close the camps
Illawarra refugee activists dropping off postcards to local Labor MP Sharon Bird.
Refugee rights activists in the Illawarra dropped off nearly 300 postcards at the Wollongong office of local MP Sharon Bird on November 18.
The postcards call on Labor to close the Manus Island and Nauru detention centres and bring the refugees to Australia.
The postcards were signed by some of the 450 people who attended the recent Close the Camps forum at Wollongong Town Hall, where speakers, including refugee advocate Julian Burnside, called for the detention centres to be closed.
