International Day Against LGBTIQ discrimination was marked for the first time in Blacktown on May 17.

The event, held at the Village Green, was hosted by the Blacktown City Council and the Blacktown Area Community Centres.

The theme was “At the Heart of Democracy”, reminding us that democracy requires inclusion of all community members.

First Nations Elder Aunty Cino did the Welcome to Country and Dale Dawson and Traidy Bugeja-Naidoo spoke. Burger Queen also gave a wonderful performance.

The Pride flag was raised to promote inclusion and respect.
