The Australia Cuba Friendship Society (ACFS) organised a rally outside the United States Consulate in Boorloo/Perth, on February 18, to protest the ongoing blockade on Cuba.

Since the US invasion of Venezuela, it has blocked Cuba from receiving oil from Venezuela and Mexico.

The situation in Cuba, while already dire due to 60 years of sanctions, is now catastrophic. Many Cuban people are now going without power, and with that, are losing access to food and water.

Some of those who gathered spoke of their own experiences visiting Cuba, visiting as far back as 30 years ago and as recently as January of this year. They talked of the living conditions of the Cuban people, how it steadily improved after the disarray caused by the collapse of the Soviet Union, and how Trump's sanctions have left Cuba in a similar situation as when the USSR fell.

Speakers included Elizabeth Hulm from ACFS, Barry Healy from Red Spark, Marta Szedlak from ACFS, Vinnie Molina from the Communist Party of Australia and Elliot Taylor.

Some spoke of their own experiences visiting Cuba, and about the living conditions of the Cuban people.

Protesters demanded an immediate end to the imperialist sanctions the US has placed on Cuba.
