Why
A devastating copper gold mine is proposed to be built near the waters of one of the last remaining great rivers; the children of the Sepik embark on an indigenous led resistance to protect her waters. Sukundimi Walks Before Me explores this existential fight through lyrical expressions of existence, resistance and life along the mother river.
Winner of Sydney Film Festival's Sustainable Future Award, the world's largest environmental film prize - Sukundimi Walks Before Me is a story of resilience and collective refusal in the face of extraction.
Film screening followed by an in-person Q&A with the film's subject Manu Peni.
