Why

This year’s theme is Youth Justice Reimagined: First Nations Futures Unbound.

The theme focusses on the fact that state and territory youth justice systems in Australia are places in which disproportionately large numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children continue to be detained.

Speakers

  • Dr Pekiri Ruska, Research Fellow School of Law Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, University of Queensland is a Goenpul woman from North Stradbroke Island and a Research Fellow in the Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Journalism.
  • Dr Krystal Lockwood is a Gumbaynggirr and Dunghutti woman and Research Fellow with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Futures at The University of Queensland. Her research examines how justice is understood, measured, and enacted within contemporary justice systems. Her research focuses on Indigenous justice, justice systems transformation, and persistent inequities in justice outcomes.
