Why
Friends of the Earth and Beyond Uranium Canberra are coming together with concerned individuals and families to raise awareness against the dangers of uranium mining and AUKUS nuclear submarines. The 2026 Peace Walk will travel more than 400km mostly via the Heysen Trail.
Starting on Nukunu & Barngarla Country in Port Augusta, August 19th
Finishing on Kaurna Country in Port Adelaide, September 23rd

Join us as we walk against AUKUS, whether its for a day, a week or the whole month!
We are walking against the blatant escalation towards war and the unjust spending of over $350 billion on a US-led military project during a cost-of-living crisis. That taxpayer money could be spent funding local hospitals, schools, NDIS, environmental conservation and public housing, to name a few. We stand with Aboriginal communities resisting uranium mining, nuclear waste dumping and the escalation of military operations across sacred and sovereign lands, skies and waters.
What to expect: shared meals, welcoming people, beautiful places, campfire conversations, music & art, and good old walking! Support vehicles will carry what we need for sleeping and cooking and keeping healthy. You can walk as much or as little as you like.
On our walk, we hope to connect with local communities to exchange stories and perspectives on AUKUS, US militarism and the nuclear industry, host events and information nights, strengthen resilient community connections in the face of ongoing climate change, and connect to the beautiful lands that we are sustained by. Of course, journeys like this have been a powerful expression of 'people power' for a long time and across many lands, so we are following in this important legacy.
The most recent Peace Walk Against AUKUS in 2024, from Port Kembla to Canberra, was hugely successful in strengthening the cross-movement campaign, connecting like-minded folks and getting media coverage. We hope to build on this during the 2026 Peace Walk Against AUKUS.
