Why

In February, Defend Peace Djilang staged a protest at the electoral office of Minister for Warmongering Richard Marles. Activists tried unsuccessfully to gain entry to his office, which is like Fort Knox. You have to press an intercom button to speak to staff. There's a sign saying you have to make an appointment. There are business cards with an email address & staff tell you to put your issue in an email. Marles is our local federal MP! He holds public office & is obliged to make himself available to his constituents, but you can’t even talk to his staff.

So two activists locked on to a removalist trolley positioned in front of the door to Marles’ office whilst others decorated his office wall with anti-genocide messaging & held the “Marles to the Hague” banner & still others rallied out on the street to draw attention to the protest inside.

MARLES IS A WAR CRIMINAL. He approves the export of weapons parts to Israel in contravention of the Genocide Convention, knowing full well they will be used to commit genocide in Palestine. He supports the export of weapons parts directly from Sydney to Tel Aviv via Thai Airways.

But it’s the two activists who locked on who have been charged with trespass. Trespass! For trying to get into their MP’s office!

So join the rally outside the court to support these activists & push back against cops laying charges against people engaging in civil disobedience who are trying to stop a genocide. And remind Marles & the broader community that MARLES IS THE REAL CRIMINAL HERE!
