In Conversation with Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah and Louise Adler AM. 'Discipline': Silence is complicity — but what is the cost of speaking up?

Multi-award winning author and academic Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah joins former Director of Adelaide Writers' Week, Louise Adler AM for a timely conversation on power, dissent, and the cost of speaking out. Drawing on their experience across literature, academia, publishing, and public life, Randa and Louise will talk about Randa's book, 'Discipline', and reflect on what it means to act with integrity under pressure.

Dr. Randa Abdel-Fattah is a Future Fellow at Macquarie University. Her research areas cover Palestine, Islamophobia, race, the war on terror, and social movement activism. Dr Abdel-Fattah is also one of Australia’s most prominent Palestine advocates, a former litigation lawyer, and the multi-award-winning author of 12 books published in over 20 countries and translated into over 15 languages. Her latest novel is Discipline (UQP). 

Louise Adler was the Director of Adelaide Writers’ Week from 2023 to 2025. Prior to that role she spent over 30 years in the publishing industry most recently as a Publisher at Large for Hachette Australia and for 17 years as the CEO of Melbourne University Publishing. She was the President of the Australian Publishers Association, Chair of the PM’s Literary Awards and Chair of Creative Victoria’s Strategy Taskforce.

Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah will sign her most recent book, 'Discipline', at the conclusion of the event.
