Why
Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues despite an alleged ceasefire. More than 400 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the alleged ceasefire commenced. One average one child has died every day. Meanwhile settler violence has increased in the West Bank.
The Albanese government’s invitation to Israeli president Isaac Herzog to visit Australia whitewashes Israeli atrocities.
The state of Israel is currently on trial before the International Court of Justice for the crime of genocide and Herzog has been named in the ICJ proceedings, for statements he has made such as there are “no innocent civilians in Gaza” evidencing genocidal intent.
At the same time, we are witnessing increased anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab and anti-Muslim racism and the despicable, baseless attempt to link the free Palestine movement with the horror of Bondi.
The Albanese government’s Royal Commission and “hate crimes” legislation currently before parliament represent a major threat to our right to protest and our freedom of speech. The Adelaide Writers Festival board’s decision to remove Palestinian writer Randa Abdul-Fattah from the program, and the South Australian premier’s subsequent vilification of her, is just the latest example of a two-year long campaign to silence us.
