Why
On Thursday January 29th, we will join community members holding space on the Maiwar Green to reflect and commemorate Hind Rajab. Hind was killed by the IDF on 29th January 2024, at just 5 years old, when they fired 335 bullets into the car she was travelling in with her family, ensuring no survivors.
We will take 335 steps for Hind along the Maiwar Green (between GOMA and the State Library, South Brisbane). Community members are invited to come out and join at any point through the day, from sunrise to sunset.
Schedule
At sunrise (5:17am), we will create a path or route upon which you can take 335 steps ending with an image of Hind.
You are welcome to walk the path, bring flowers, leave a reflection, sit and contemplate or chat, or contribute to the space.
Your contribution could look like: doing or offer some art, singing a song, sharing some food, discussing an upcoming action, or sharing 335 things you would have preferred for or hoped for Hind, 335 alternatives to bullets, offering an activity, organising your friends to walk the path with you, or simply being in the space.
At 6pm we will gather as a community to honour Hind, lament, celebrate resistance and commit to action.
Near sunset (6:44pm) we will dismantle the space and carry the pieces of the installation forward. You are welcome to take pieces home with you.
We invite you to join us in the space we create or to develop your own way to reflect on the 335 shots aimed at Hind and her relatives– wherever you are -at any time.
You can record or document your thoughts and/or share your 335 steps in this event or send to the 335 Steps for Hind page.
