National Tertiary Education Union members at the University of Technology took protected industrial action on November 26 to pressure management over lack of progress in their enterprise bargaining negotiations.

It was their first strike action in this round of bargaining. Their agreement ended on August 31, and staff are concerned about job cuts, unsafe workloads and a leadership crisis that has shaken confidence.

The union is campaigning for a log of claims that include: No forced redundancies; workload protections; staff voice and transparency on UTS Council and committees; a cultural safety plan co-designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff; Protections against AI surveillance and 10 days’ paid union leave for members.
