This is a rich country. But over 1 in 6 children and 1 in 8 adults live in deep poverty.
We could provide everyone with a dignified income, instead of punishing people accessing Centrelink payments. We could build tens of thousands of public homes to meet community demand, and protect renters from massive rent rises.
But instead, we see tens of billions of dollars of tax cuts and subsidies for the big end of town, and governments prioritising investors’ profits over people trying to keep a roof over their head and put food on the table.
It does not need to be this way. We can come together, and fight for a fairer world. A world that puts people’s needs first.
