Movie: Edward II (1991) — Derek Jarman's provocative and challenging adaptation of Christopher Marlowe's 1593 play focuses on Britain's only known gay monarch, whose preference for his lover over his queen sparked conflict with his barons and eventually, civil war. SBS, Friday, April 14, 11.35pm.

Large Women — British comedian Dawn French takes an irreverent look at the way "big women" are treated in modern society. She explores the politics of being "fat" and why voluptuous women, considered beautiful and ideal by artists in earlier periods, are ignored by today's magazine culture. In Times of Trouble — The role of religion in the struggle for the reunification of Ireland. ABC TV, Sunday, April 16, 11pm.

Redemption Song: Cuba — This episode of the series on the history, culture and politics of the Caribbean deals with Cuba. Excellent footage of Cuba today which at times is starkly in contradiction with the narration provided. SBS, Sunday, April 16, 11.40pm.

David Suzuki's The Nature of Things: The Advanced Material World — Advanced materials and technologies are transforming our world but the question remains: will this world be significantly healthier and less polluted? SBS, Monday, April 17, 7.30pm.

The Spirit in the Mountain — For thousands of years the Kuku Djungan people lived in north Queensland. In the '20s, the state government took their children and scattered the people. The Kuku Djungan recently bought a huge cattle property, Kopaparinga, in the heart of their old country. At the centre of the land is the 300 metre Mount Mulligan. This program shows how the Kuku Djungan have embarked on a unique ecotourism project with the aid of scientists. ABC TV, Wednesday, April 19, 8pm.

The Last Dream: Heroes Unsung — John Pilger takes a provocative look at the experiences of people migrating to Australia in the '50s. ABC TV, Saturday, April 22, midnight.

Black River — A film adaptation of an operatic work based on the 1987 Human Rights Commission inquiry into the conditions faced by Aborigines at Toomelah, on the Queensland-NSW border. SBS, Monday, April 24, 11.15pm.
