WOLLONGONG — In the lead up to the February 16 "Walk Against the War" in Sydney, the Illawarra NoWar collective is organising a February 8 protest against war on Iraq.

Advertised with the slogan "No blood for oil", the rally will demand "No war on Iraq" and "No Australian support". It has already been endorsed by a number of community groups and political parties in the Illawarra. These include: the Illawarra Islamic Society; the Illawarra High School Student Social Action Network; the southern NSW branch of the National MUA Veterans Association; Resistance; the Socialist Alliance; the Illawarra Greens; the Australian Peace Committee; the Hiroshima Day Committee; the Communist Party of Australia and the Wollongong University Students' Representative Council.

At its meeting on January 15, the SRC decided to donate $200 towards promoting the rally. The local producer of an Arabic radio program has also volunteered to advertise the rally every Sunday.

The rally will begin at Fred Moore House at 10.30 am on February 8. For more information contact Grant on 4226 2010.
