Solidarity
Solidarity with South Korean workers in their struggle is important. Here are some possible actions:
1. Pass the following motion at your workplace or through your union:
"This workplace/union opposes the introduction of the South Korean labour law and security law. These laws will make it easier to sack workers, reduce wages and increase working hours. Freedom of association and political activities will be severely curtailed.
"We note that South Korean workers already work 54 hours per week on average (in the shipbuilding industry 70 hours on average), 43% of workers earn less than what is needed to satisfy the most basic of needs and South Korea has amongst the highest rate of industrial accidents in the world.
"We support the strikes called by the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and wish the workers success in their campaign to repeal the laws.
"We wish to donate $______ to the KCTU."
