By Ray Fulcher MELBOURNE — More than 500 people packed into the North Melbourne Town Hall on October 20 to hear journalist and human rights campaigner John Pilger speak about East Timor's struggle for independence. The meeting was organised by Green Left Weekly and entertainment was provided by the East Timorese Cultural Group. Pilger spoke of the plight of the Timorese people and the complicity of the Australian government. He challenged Australian journalists to show the courage of their Indonesian counterparts in standing up for human rights and democracy. Some 50 people bought subscriptions to Green Left Weekly.
