A modest success

By Kamala Emanuel

NEWCASTLE — The Modest Day Out was a success here on Sunday, March 14.

Sydney has the Big Day Out. Last year, Newcastle bands fed up with this city's lack of initiative organised their own three-

band Small Day Out.

This year the effort was repeated with five bands, and the name was "upgraded".

About 300 people gathered in King Edward Park from 1 to 6 p.m. for the free concert, courtesy of the bands, Skyhigh Recording Studio and 2JJJ.

The audience was treated to the music of the Bleeders (well known, among other things, for their participation in International Women's Day events and last year's Reclaim the Night festivities), Vault of Heaven, Fishtank, Burning Winter and Golden Section.
