Al Nakba — "the catastrophe" — is marked on the anniversary of the start of Israel's ethnic cleansing of Palestinian people in 1948.

This year was the 74th anniversary of the beginning of Nakba, an ongoing process of genocide.

Rallies in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane highlighted the assassination of respected Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.

One minute of silence was observed at the Melbourne rally, where participants carried placards honouring her brave resistance to Israel's occupation.
