Melbourne contingent planned for APEC protests

Issue

Melbourne's Stop the War Coalition (STWC) held a public meeting at Trades Hall Bar on May 1 to discuss organising a contingent to protests at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference, being held in Sydney in September.

Around 50 people attended the meeting, which heard speeches from the National Union of Students' anti-racist chair, Fatma al Mahrizi; Joan Doyle, postal secretary of the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union; and Lee West from STWC.

STWC is organising buses to the APEC protests, and has begun taking reservations. The group's next meeting will be held at RMIT at 6.30pm on May 14. For more information visit <http://www.melbournestopwar.org> or phone Marcus on 0406 965 896.
