CPSU members defend delegate

By Chris Slee

MELBOURNE — Twenty members of the Community and Public Sector Union attended the inaugural meeting of a committee to defend Marcus Banks. Banks, a CPSU delegate at the Moreland Centrelink office, was transferred to another office and faces further disciplinary action for raising his voice to a manager while defending a union member.

The meeting passed a resolution calling on the CPSU's Victorian branch executive and Centrelink section executive to publish a bulletin on Banks' case and to endorse a petition calling for his transfer back to Moreland and an end to the investigation of Banks.

The meeting called for protest action if Banks is summoned to meet with management about disciplinary charges. Action could include a protest outside such a meeting, protests outside workplaces and the wearing of black armbands at work.
