GEELONG — "For too long now ordinary workers have had to suffer while governments, both Liberal and Labor, have implemented their big business policies. It's time that workers had an opportunity to stand up", says Tim Gooden, the newly chosen Socialist Alliance candidate for the seat of Corio.

Gooden was pre-selected on September 6. A shop steward for the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union on a construction site in Geelong, Gooden is also actively involved in the fight against the federal government's royal commission into the unions that cover construction workers.

The local alliance plans to campaign on several different issues, including government attacks on unions, especially pertinent to Geelong residents given the recent closure of several large factories in the region.

The alliance is also planning to organise a public meeting about the plight of refugees.
