AFGHANISTAN: 340 US air strikes in three months

Issue

The Washington Post reported on June 18 that 340 air strikes have been carried out by US forces in Afghanistan over the past three months. According to a Reuters report, more than double the number of air strikes were carried out in Afghanistan than in Iraq over the same period. Associated Press reported: "U.S. warplanes logged nearly 2,000 strikes in Afghanistan from March through May 2006, about as many as the same period in 2005, Air Force Maj. Michael Young said earlier this month. But he said airstrikes spiked at 750 last month, as opposed to 660 in May 2005."
