Why
Victoria is undertaking a huge shift to renewable energy that is delivering affordable energy, keeping the lights on and creating good jobs all around the state.
But as renewable energy gets underway, the rise of anti-renewables misinformation and disinformation threatens to knock the transition off course, and set Victoria back years.
This risk has real consequences for power producing regions like Gippsland, which has a huge opportunity in everything from wind, solar, energy storage and offshore wind.
Earlier this year we launched our ‘Yes2Renewables Toolkit’, a vital resource for communities and organisers to create a better energy future. We’ve spent over thirteen years organising and empowering communities to support and accelerate the shift to renewable energy – and our toolkit brings these lessons together in one handy resource.
On Sept 5th, we’re joining forces with local organisation East Gippsland Climate Action Network to deliver a workshop about local organising and combatting mis and disinformation about renewables.
At this event you will:
- Gain practical knowledge about how to identify and respond strategically to misinformation
- Be inspired by positive examples of how communities are championing renewable energy from the small stuff to the big stuff
- Learn how you can be part of community campaigns to champion a better energy future
- Connect with like-minded people
- Receive an update about our community survey on offshore wind
In an age of anti-renewables misinformation, where fossil fuel companies and their lackeys are actively funding astroturfing campaigns to delay the transition to wind and solar. This is a critical time for communities to get organised, learn new skills and champion renewable energy.
If you’re angry about the spread of misinformation, if you’ve ever felt isolated or overwhelmed about how to support renewable energy, or you just want to learn new skills and hear about the amazing community action happening around the country, this event is for you.
This event is co-hosted by East Gippsland Climate Action Network and Yes2Renewables on the lands of the Gunai Kurnai Peoples.
