Why

Labor made a big show in March of accepting Iranian footballers as refugees but passed a new law that allows the government to ban people with valid visas arriving from war zones.

Meanwhile, refugees who have been waiting for years for permanent visas are still rotting in limbo. Thousands more are marooned by Australian policy in Indonesia.

This forum will discuss why Labor says it supports multiculturalism but makes life hell for refugees from Muslim-majority countries and discuss how the refugee movement should respond.

Speakers

  • Councillor Rayane Hawli, migration lawyer
  • Angelica Panopoulos, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre
