Why

SWOP NSW Presents Sex Work: A Legal and Social History Walking Tour.

This walking tour will take place in the historic "red light district" of Kings Cross, a neighbourhood that was host to the rich tapestry of Sydney’s history, piquing the interest of many. The tour will feature a predominantly sex worker cast, alongside health outreach workers and sex-work-specific legal service providers.

Tickets are available from Humanitix.

With 8 speakers each evening, the tour will cover both the personal anecdotes of those involved in sex work and the legislation that has shaped their lives. Speakers will share their stories on various topics, including current, historical, and future laws that aim to protect sex workers, as well as the advocates who have been instrumental in achieving these legal advancements.

The event aims to humanise the sex working community, break down stereotypes, and highlight the achievements of sex workers and their advocates. It will also serve as an educational tool for the general public, highlighting the cultural and social diversity in our community, addressing misconceptions about the industry while calling for further legislative changes that NSW sex workers continue to advocate for.

The tour will be conducted across wheelchair-accessible parts of Kings Cross, ensuring that it is inclusive for all participants. Ultimately, the tour will showcase the resilience, struggles, and successes of sex workers while fostering a deeper understanding of the need for continued legal reform and strengthened social inclusion. This walking tour not only educates but also empowers the broader community to continue advocating for necessary changes.
