Why

What is the nature and origins of capitalism? What is socialism? What is the relevance of Marxism today? If you’re interested in these questions, come along to the Marxist Reading Group to read, discuss and debate Marx and Marxism. All welcome!

In this series we will be delving into Karl Marx's Value, Price and Profit. Pre-reading is highly encouraged but not mandatory.

Attendance

Reading Group sessions will be held at the Activist Centre at 6pm on Wednesdays. Please consider bringing drinks, snacks or a plate of food to share if you can.

Anyone who cannot attend in person is welcome to join with Zoom. You may want to connect before the starting time of 6pm to check your audio.

Reading

We will read from the International Co. edition of 1969. A pdf is available for download, courtesy of the Marxist Internet Archive.

There are five sessions over five weeks:

  • Wednesday 21 January: Introduction, Preliminary, Chapter 1 and 2
  • Wednesday 28 January: Chapter 3, 4 and 5
  • Wednesday 4 February: Chapter 6 , 7 and 8
  • Wednesday 11 February: Chapter 9, 10 and 11
  • Wednesday 18 February: Chapter 12, 13,14

Once we have completed this series we will discuss and vote on the next Marxist text to read.
