Hundreds joined rallies in Gadigal Country/Sydney and Naarm/Melbourne on November 24 to mark Trans Day of Remembrance, also called Trans Day of Resistance, and defend trans people’s rights.
Peter Boyle reports that, on Gadigal Country, protesters gathered at Pride Square in Newtown and marched to Victoria Park.
Rachel Evans, from Socialist Alliance, told Green Left there has been “a rise of homophobic and transphobic attacks and we are calling on councils to oppose this”.
“We are also calling on governments to provide free gender-affirming care for trans youth.”
Alec Rogers reports from Naarm that demonstrators gathered at Flinders Street Station to hear from speakers before marching to the State Library.
The rally was organised by the Trans Action Network.
