A lively Trans Day of Resistance march on November 23 took off down King Street after a rally at Newtown Pride Square. The march, organised by Pride in Protest, proceeded to Victoria Park.
“There is a rise in homophobic and transphobic attacks because the far right is feeling emboldened,” Rachel Evans, from Socialist Alliance, told Green Left.
“We are calling on governments to provide free gender-affirming care for trans youth and not do what the Queensland government did, which was to walk away from supporting trans youth.”
The protest also called on NSW Labor to remove the legal exemptions that allow religious organisations to sack employees because of their sexuality or gender identity.
Another rally demand was to oppose police participation in the Mardi Gras parade, Evans said, because the police are assaulting and harassing First Nations and LGBTIQ people.
