Video: Justice for Cassius Turvey — the Sydney vigil

The most moving part of the Sydney #JusticeForCassiusTurvey vigil on November 2 was the message from Mechelle Turvey, the mother Cassius Turvey, which was read to the large crowd.

Noongar boy Cassius, was the victim of a brutal racist attack while he was walking home from school in Midlands, Western Australia.

Prominent First Nations activists Gumbaynggirr Dunghutti Bundjalung woman Lizzie Jarrett and Wiradjuri woman Lynda June Coe read out the message to a crowd of several thousand.

Other speakers included Cassius’ Uncle Lyon, Wiradjuri woman Jenny Munro, Bundjalung Widubul-Wiabul woman Vanessa Turnbull-Roberts, Whadjuk Noongar woman and TV presenter Narelda Jacobs, Yamatji man and renowned actor Ernie Dingo, school student from School Strike 4 Climate and Wiradjuri youth Ethan Lyons, community leaders Uncle Dave Bell and Uncle Shane Plymouth, Jasmine Speedy and Greens Senator David Shoebridge.

Vigils were also held in major cities and towns in every state and territory on the same day.
