ZIMBABWE: Police attack World Aids Day march

November 17, 1993
Issue

On December 1, police crushed a World Aids Day march in Harare, arresting several of the organisers, including activists from the International Socialist Organisation and Women Aids Support Network. Hundreds of people joined the march, demanding access to anti-retroviral treatment and for action to reduce poverty, including a living wage for workers, affordable fuel, sanitary pads and baby milk, and lower taxes. Protesters also demanded transparency in the AIDS levy, which workers contribute to but which is looted by regime bureaucrats. For more information visit <http://sa.indymedia.org>.
