At the same time as our awards, inside the Convention Centre, the Women in Resources Awards is celebrating achievements in the mining and energy sectors. Some of the world’s biggest climate criminals will be represented, including Chevron and Woodside. These companies profit from fueling climate change, stealing indigenous land and exploiting workers. We aim to hold a counter awards ceremony outside the venue, celebrating the achievements of women and non binary people within the climate and environmental movement.
We are not here to criticise the women inside, we are here to criticise the industry. It’s vital for us to not let the fossil fuel extraction industry get away with using corporate ‘feminism’ to avoid criticism for their general unethical behaviour.
There is a huge dismissal of women’s livelihood by these companies, highlighting their faux-feminism (see Woodside’s rig plans in Senegal: https://actionaid.org.au/actions/woodside-efa-petition/?utm_source=200128+woodside&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Climate+Justice&link_id=1&can_id=36c7d0ddbf52fe3d13aa6743ccfaba63&email_referrer=email_709205&email_subject=you-vs-woodside)
