WA uranium mine on the rocks

WESTERN MINING Corporation (WMC) announced that it would hand back the Yeelirrie uranium deposit to the Western Australian government if it failed to find a buyer in two years, according to a report in the February 9 West Australian.

WMC has spent $35 million at Yeelirrie, but weak uranium prices in recent years jeopardised the financial viability of the mine. WMC extracted more than 130,000 tonnes of uranium ore from the site in its bid to find out whether it would expand into full-scale mining of the low-grade ore.
