VENEZUELA: Chavez offers cheap heating oil to poor Europeans

November 17, 1993
Issue

On May 14, Venezuela's socialist President Hugo Chavez proposed a program to provide cheap heating oil to low-income communities in Europe. This follows a successful program in the US by Venezuelan oil subsidiary Citgo, providing subsidised heating oil to thousands of households in six states. "I want to modestly offer help to the poorest people who in winter, don't have resources for heating", Chavez announced, adding that the program's success would require the involvement of progressive European groups. "You Europeans can help us greatly. Your European social networks can make sure the support arrives where it should." For more information visit <http://www.venezuelanalysis.com>.
