On October 26, Venezuelan ambassador Fermin Toro Jimenez told the UN Security Council that his country has begun processing an extradition request for Reverend Pat Robertson from the US. Robertson has publicly called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, which Jimenez pointed out is a crime under US law as well as an act of terrorism under international law. According to the Prensa Latina news service, Jimenez also highlighted Washington's failure to respond to Venezuela's request to extradite terrorist Luis Posada Carriles. Posada escaped from a Caracas prison where he was being held over a 1976 attack on a Cuban plane, which killed all 73 people on board. Jimenez argued that a terrorist is not only someone who commits acts of terrorism, but also someone who protects terrorists.
