ADELAIDE — On May 4, 1000 people attended a rally organised by the construction workers' union (CFMEU) to protest the Howard government's industrial relations agenda. The rally was timed to coincide with an employers' luncheon at which workplace relations minister Kevin Andrews was talking up the benefits for employers of the government's IR agenda.

Rally speakers included CFMEU state secretary Martin O'Malley, manufacturing workers' union state secretary John Camillo and CFMEU assistant national secretary John Sutton. All three outlined the dangers to all workers posed by the government's planned "reforms". They called upon all unions to support each others' struggles and to support protest actions on June 30.
