Timor solidarity evening

Issue

MELBOURNE — On May 3, 100 people attended an "East Timor: Then and Now" evening organised by East Timor Women Australia, the Australia East Timor Association and the Timor Sea Justice Campaign.

The featured speaker was Canadian filmmaker and photographer Elaine Briere, whose unique photographs of East Timor taken in 1974 were some of the last images of the country before the Indonesian invasion. These images inspired Briere to produce the documentary film Bitter Paradise: The Sell-out of East Timor in 1996.
