Thousands join Pride March

Issue

MELBOURNE — On January 21, Melbourne held its 12th Pride March. Despite rainy weather, 3000 people marched in the parade, with 87 groups represented. Issues raised included calls to repeal the ban on same-sex marriage, to stop violence against queers and to stop the war on Iraq; and a call to Midsumma, which organised the Pride March, not to take sponsorship from corporations like IBM who support the war in Iraq and supported the Holocaust. Festivities went on through the night in St Kilda, and Midsumma events will continue until February 11.
