School Strike 4 Climate activist Shiann Broderick criticised the federal government for ignoring the link between climate change and extreme weather events at a solidarity action on March 14 to highlight flood victims’ calls for real climate action.

“From the catastrophic fires in 2019 and 2020 to another climate disaster with the horrific flooding of the east coast, the Prime Minister is obsessed with coal and gas and it is making us sick.”

Broderick, Kyla Hill and Will Hazza read out messages from school students based in the Lismore region, the Blue Mountains and the Hawkesbury. Many of their friends’ homes have been destroyed, some, just after rebuilding from previous floods. The snap action attracted 30 people.
